Last updated 23-10-2026. This notice explains how SkaterLocator uses your personal data. SkaterLocator is run by Usable Media Limited (“we”, “us”), which is the data controller for your information (see who runs SkaterLocator). You can contact us about your data at hello@skaterlocator.com, as set out in our terms and conditions.
What we collect
Organisers: your email address, optional phone number, and the session details you submit.
Reviewers: your email address, display name, rating, review and optional video link.
Private feedback: your message and, if you choose, your email address.
Video suggestions: your name, email address, the video link and your note.
Change requests: your optional name, email address, the changes you suggest and your note.
Photos and videos: your display name, email address, the files you upload and your caption. Photos are resized on your device and their hidden location data is removed before upload. Videos are stored as you send them, so they may include details such as where they were filmed.
Session tips (“Spotted a session?”): the screenshots, link and note you send, your optional name and email address, and a scrambled version of your internet address that we use only to stop floods of tips. Screenshots are resized on your device and their hidden location data is removed. Only our team sees them, and we delete them once we’ve dealt with your tip.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
To run the service you’ve asked for: to confirm you are a real person, run the approval process, publish approved listings, reviews and videos, pass private feedback to organisers, update listings when you request a change, and contact you about your listing, review, video suggestion or change request. We do this to provide the service you’ve asked us for, and because we have a legitimate interest in running an accurate, safe directory (for example, checking submissions and preventing spam).
News and offers: we only send these if you tick the box to say yes (your consent). You can unsubscribe at any time.
Analytics: only if you choose Accept on the cookie banner (your consent). See analytics cookies below.
Legal reasons: we may keep or share information where the law requires it.
What skaters see
We never show your email address or phone number publicly. Reviews, photos and videos show only your display name, and suggested videos show only your name and note. Listings show the session and organiser details you entered.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers to run the service: Supabase (database), Hostinger (hosting and email), postcodes.io (postcode and town lookups), Google Analytics (visitor statistics, only if you allow it) and YouTube (how-to videos: the page shows YouTube's preview picture, and the video player only loads when you press play). We do not sell your data.
Some pages show adverts and affiliate links, labelled “Ad”, and some sessions are marked “Featured” because the organiser paid to promote them. We don’t pass any of your details to the shops or organisers. We count clicks on adverts so we can tell shops how many people visited them, but we only record the advert and the time, nothing about you. If you click one, the retailer may use cookies on its own website to record that you came from SkaterLocator; their privacy policy explains how.
These providers handle data on our behalf. Some, such as Google, may process it outside the UK; when they do, they use safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as approved contract terms or the UK–US data bridge.
How long we keep it
We keep your personal details (such as your email address and phone number) for 24 months, then remove them. Reviews, photos and videos you’ve published stay on SkaterLocator with your display name, so other skaters can keep using them, unless you ask us to remove them. You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing hello@skaterlocator.com with the subject line “please delete my data”. We will respond within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to limit or object to how we use it, or to receive a copy of it, by emailing hello@skaterlocator.com. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first; you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Analytics cookies
If you choose Accept on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and searches are used, so we can improve SkaterLocator. It sets cookies named _ga on your device, which last up to 2 years. Google processes this information for us; we have turned off advertising features and Google signals, and we never send your name or email address. If you choose No thanks, or don't choose, Google Analytics doesn't load and no analytics cookies are set. It never runs on your private manage link or email confirmation pages.
